Bright Software Solutions' eCommerce Browser 'App' allows you to quickly start advertising your existing shop via your Facebook page. It is designed so that after initial installation, the system will automatically keep up-to-date with your product catalogue without the need to maintain a separate product list.

The App is easily configured to display special offers, featured and new products collected directly from your live shop.

Installation

Installation involves 3 stages:
  1. Install a Plugin to your online store (this creates a data package that the Facebook 'App' can read quickly).
  2. Add the 'App' to your Facebook page
  3. Configure the App to grab the data from your website
Important! Both components must be installed for your product catalog to work correctly on your Facebook page.

1. How to install Shop Plugin:

Installation of this contribution is done at your own risk. We would always recommend creating a BACKUP of your Shop database and any and all applicable files before proceeding.
  1. Unzip plugin file to your local computer.
  2. Rename 'Your_Renamed_Admin_Folder' to match the name of your existing Admin folder.
  3. Upload the file 'fb_browse.php' & 'Your_Renamed_Admin_Folder' into the root of your shop website
    (using an FTP client such as Filezilla)
    • No files will be overwritten
  4. In your store admin, go to Tools->Install SQL Patches. Now, open the install.sql file and copy and paste the text into the textbox and click on 'send' (please note that you do not upload this file). This will set up a unique key, which will allow your Facebook page access to your product catalog.
  5. Go to Configuration->Facebook Catalog Browser
  6. Make a note of your unique auto-generated "Catalog Browser Plugin Key" as this will be needed when installing the Facebook App.

2. How to install Facebook App:

  1.  Go to the App page: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=136002413133082
  2.  Select 'Add to my page' on the left-hand menu.
  3.  On the dialog, click on the 'Add to page' button next to the 'Page' to which you wish to add the App.
  4.  Click the 'Close' button once you have added it to all the pages you want.
  5.  Go to your 'Page' (the one that you have installed our App on)
  6.  The 'Online Shop' app should now be visible on your page (you can change the name of this later, if you want)
  7.  Click to view the 'Online Shop' App.
  8.  You will now see the sign-up page for our Catalog Browser App.
  9.  Choose the price-plan that meets your page requirements, by clicking the 'Sign up' button.
  10.  'Allow' the permissions on the popup dialog. This will create an account with Bright Software Solutions, allowing you to customise and manage your Facebook Product Catalog Browser.
Now you have installed all the components required. All that's left, is to complete the setup of the Product Catalog Browser!

3. How to set up your Catalog Browser:

  1. If not already on it, go to the 'Online Shop' App on your page (this should be visible on the left hand menu on your Facebook page).
  2. Enter the details for your shop: 
    • Shop Name
    • Shop Website
  3. Enter your 'Shop Plugin Key', and then click on 'Save Settings'. The 'Shop Plugin Key' is the 8-digit code that was created, when you installed our Catalog-creator onto your online shop. If you have not installed our Catalog-creator onto your online shop yet, please refer to 'How to install Catalog Creator' before proceeding.
  4. Optional Settings
    • Banner (Banner image location, either load up, or point to a location on the internet)
    • Display Special Products Category - option to display 'specials'.
    • Display Featured Products Category - option to display 'featured' products from your store.
    • Display New Products Category - option to display the newest products from your store.
    • Default Page - set which page of the Catalog Browser you want to display as default (e.g. 'Specials').
  5. Click "Save" and then click "Leave Admin Mode" to see what your shop looks like!

F.A.Q.

I want to change the App title from 'Online Shop'!

  1.  Go to your Facebook page, and click on 'Edit Info' (near the top of the page)
  2.  On the left-hand menu, select 'Apps'.
  3.  Click on 'Edit Settings' under 'eCommerce Catalog Browser'.
  4.  On the popup dialog, change the name of the 'Tab' to whatever you want, and click 'Save', then click on 'Okay'.

How do I create a Facebook 'Page?

You will need to have a Facebook 'Page' in order to use this App. Facebook 'Pages' differ from personal profiles, in that they are specifically designed for organisations or businesses. Please note, that this 'App' can only be installed to a Facebook 'Page'. It cannot be installed on a 'Group' or 'Profile'.

To create a Facebook 'Page', simply login to Facebook under your personal profile, go to the following link, and follow the directions onscreen:

(You will automatically be set up as an administrator of the 'Page' that you create. This will be separate to your personal Facebook profile.)
