如何通过密码保护网站文件、目录，限制IP地址？

老大，，我的服务器支持.htaccess，但用“仅某些IP段的用户访问需要密码，其它IP的用户无需密码”的代码放进.htaccess，同样可以打开。。
然而我把<IfModule mod_auth.c> </IfModule>删了，，网站就打不开了，提示了一些服务器错误。。
错误如下：

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, root@localhost and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

当被限制的IP访问时直接转到别一个页面。
